Wadden Sea, Ho Bay and Skallingen

Wadden Sea experiences

The area offers countless stories and the rich plant and animal life is fascinating for all ages. Discover the many migratory birds, go on a seal safari or hunt for oysters in the Wadden Sea. As a guest here in Blåvand, it's not far to wonderful experiences in and around the National Park. Just about 7 km from the campsite you'll find Ho Bugt, a favourite destination for our guests. During special periods, you can walk all the way to Langli, a tidal island in Ho Bugt - but remember to ask a local guide about tides etc. We occasionally organise special trips out to the Wadden Sea island of Langli for bird and seal watching. The tour can easily be done without a guide but it is important to ask about tides and weather conditions.

Another great experience is to cycle to the south-eastern tip of the Skallingen peninsula. Here you have a fantastic view of the Wadden Sea area towards the city of Esbjerg. There are great opportunities to see seals and the beach is absolutely stunning. As a rule, there are hardly any people here, which contributes to a wonderful experience of being completely alone in the world.

Wadden Sea hike

Take a guided Wadden Sea walk by the North Sea to the northernmost island of the Wadden Sea, Langli, where you can observe bird breeding grounds and see seals if you are lucky. Hvidbjerg Strand Holiday Park is located right on the edge of the Wadden Sea National Park, which stretches from Blåvand Lighthouse in the north to well into the Netherlands. The Wadden Sea is the largest contiguous tidal area in the world, and it is also Denmark's largest national park.

In 2014, UNESCO designated the Wadden Sea as a World Heritage Site worthy of preservation.

Skallingen

Skallingen is the peninsula that extends approximately 7 kilometres southwest from Hvidbjerg Strand. It is uninhabited and part of the Wadden Sea National Park. Great nature experiences await on Skallingen, and you can explore the peninsula on foot, for example along the marked hiking trail of approx. 4 km, or by bike. Pack a picnic basket and enjoy a day of enchanting scenery and exciting bird and animal life.

You'll find an excellent beach on Skallingen and have the opportunity to look for amber, see harbour seals and enjoy other exciting nature experiences. During the summer months, a real cowboy looks after around 600 cows that graze on "Skomagersletten". They belong to around 20 farmers who are happy to leave the cattle to the wild life on Skallingen.

Langli

East of Skallingen is the small island of Langli, where people are only welcome from 16 July to 15 September. Access is via the ebbevej, where you walk or wade from Nyeng in Ho to Langli. It's almost 4 kilometres long and takes 1-1½ hours each way, but most people can take a tractor ride to the island.

Here, a guide will help point out the exciting experiences that nature has to offer - such as the harbour seals, the mysterious "Dead Man's Mountain" where the beached bodies of unknown sailors were buried, the Langli Mountains and much more.
