Visit Denmark's oldest city and most cosy market town

Ribe is a gem that was deservedly voted Europe's most beautiful small town in 2014 by Global Grasshoppers and Hotels.com. The old town can easily be seen on foot and has a very special atmosphere. There are more than a hundred listed houses in the town.

Ribe's majestic landmark is Ribe Cathedral with the Civic Tower - Ribe's biggest tourist attraction. Every year, thousands of people climb the 248 steps to the top, from where they can see for kilometres on a clear day.

The town is a bustling commercial centre with many specialty shops selling design, arts and crafts, fashion and food with a focus on locally sourced ingredients. Visit Ribe Bryghus, where you can follow the brewing process and buy a bottle of freshly brewed beer.

Events

There are plenty of events in Ribe, including the Ribe Classic, a veteran event for old cars, scooters, motorbikes and mopeds that takes place every Tuesday from April to September.

Held every year in the first weekend of September, the Ribe Wine Festival is a large wine market in the cosy medieval pedestrian street. Around 15 different wine importers come and give tastings and talk about the different wines. Of course, delicious accompaniments are also served.

Go on an adventure at Ribe Viking Centre

Ribe VikingeCenter is just over 70 km from Hvidbjerg Strand Holiday Park and is full of exciting experiences for both children and adults

Ribe VikingeCenter is a historical experience centre with authentic reconstructions of Viking Ribe. Here history is alive and you are a part of it.

Take a stroll around the Market Square and Ripa Harbour, 710-750 AD, where glass bead makers and silversmiths work. Also make your way past the Sacrificial Square and the house of the völva. In Ripa City, year 825, you can visit the woodsmith, the slave trader and the courthouse, where the walls are decorated with a 20 metre long fresco. On the opposite side, craftsmen are building Ansgar Church, year 860, while warriors and skilful archers can be found at Ringvolden, year 980. At Storgården, year 980, you can experience farming, pet the animals and visit the great farmer's longhouse.

At Ribe VikingeCenter there are performances and activities every day: Shoot a longbow, take part in warrior training, strike your own Ripa coin, work in the carving house, bake flatbread, learn Viking games and more. Let your imagination run wild, play along and try it yourself!

Visit the unique Wadden Sea Centre

In 2014, the Wadden Sea was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and at the WADDEN SEA CENTRE you can experience the unique nature of the area.

The Wadden Sea Centre is the visitor centre for the Wadden Sea World Heritage. Here you will find experiences that infectiously involve both young and old in the marvellous world of the Wadden Sea.

The Wadden Sea Centre has a wide range of public tours you can sign up for, such as: Oyster Tour, Seal Safari and Black Sun, in spring and autumn when starlings gather in huge flocks for migration.

Blåvand

Blåvand has shops open all year round with a wide selection.

You'll find restaurants, cafés and activity centres for the whole family. There are also service businesses such as craftsmen and estate agents that are open all year round.

There are plenty of things to do regardless of the season.

Unique bridge on a unique beach

At Hvidbjerg Strand Holiday Park you'll find the only bathing jetty on the west coast. The bridge is the icing on the cake at the beach, which is in a class of its own.

Varde

Varde is a very old town and is located approximately 18 kilometres north of Esbjerg and almost 25 kilometres from Hvidbjerg Strand.

Ho Bay and Skallingen

The west coast and Wadden Sea offer rich wildlife, migratory birds, seal watching and oyster hunting. Walk to Langli Island at low tide, but remember to check the tides. Cycle to Skallingen for stunning views, a quiet beach and good chances of seeing seals.

Visit Esbjerg

Even though you're in the middle of beautiful Danish nature, Denmark's 5th largest city, Esbjerg, is only half an hour away by car.

Cycling

Strap your bikes to the back of the car and you're already well on your way towards the queue of experiences that await you. Whatever your cycling level, you'll find challenges here. If you just want to experience the area from the bike, you can go on romantic morning rides where you're almost certain to encounter deer along the way. If you're looking for speed and excitement, don't look far for a fast mountain bike route.
